ANTERIOR SEGMENT
The anterior segment of the eye encompasses all structures located in front of the vitreous humor: the cornea, iris, lens, anterior chamber angle, and anterior chamber. At Oftalmolaser, we have subspecialists and cutting-edge technology for the diagnosis and treatment of all pathologies affecting this region of the eye.
What is the Anterior Segment?
The anterior segment is the front part of the eye, responsible for focusing light and maintaining intraocular pressure. It includes the cornea (the transparent window of the eye), the iris (the colored part), the lens (which focuses images), and the aqueous humor drainage system. Diseases in this area can seriously affect vision if not diagnosed and treated in time.
Pathologies We Treat
Cataracts
Cataract is the opacification of the lens, the eye's natural lens. It is the most common cause of surgically treatable blindness. At Oftalmolaser, we perform cataract surgery with phacoemulsification and premium intraocular lenses, restoring clear vision to our patients.
Read moreKeratoconus
A progressive disease that weakens the cornea, causing it to adopt a conical shape. We offer treatments such as Corneal Crosslinking, intracorneal rings, and specialized contact lenses to stop its progression and improve vision.
Ocular Surface Diseases
Include dry eye, blepharitis, conjunctivitis, and sicca keratoconjunctivitis. We use technology such as TearLab for precise diagnosis and personalized treatments including artificial tears, punctal plugs, and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Therapy.
Refractive Surgery
We correct refractive errors such as myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism through laser surgery (LASIK, PRK, SMILE) and phakic intraocular lenses (ICL). Our team evaluates each patient to determine the best option.
Pterygium
Also known as "surfer's eye", it is the abnormal growth of conjunctival tissue over the cornea. When it affects vision or causes discomfort, we perform surgical removal with techniques that minimize recurrence.
Angle-Closure Glaucoma
An aggressive form of glaucoma that occurs when the eye's drainage angle suddenly blocks. YAG laser iridotomy is the treatment of choice to prevent acute episodes and preserve vision.
Anterior Uveitis
Inflammation of the uvea (iris and ciliary body) that can cause pain, redness, and blurry vision. Our specialists identify the underlying cause and administer anti-inflammatory treatment to prevent complications.
State-of-the-Art Technology
We have diagnostic and surgical equipment of the latest generation for comprehensive management of the anterior segment:
- OCT Cirrus and Solix — High-resolution optical coherence tomography for corneal and optic nerve evaluation.
- Pentacam HR — Complete corneal topography for refractive surgery planning and keratoconus diagnosis.
- LENSTAR Biometry — Precise intraocular lens calculation for cataract surgery.
- Tomey Specular Microscope — Corneal endothelium evaluation before surgeries.
- VERION — Surgical navigation system for personalized cataract surgery.
- YAG Laser — Treatment of capsulotomy, iridotomy, and other anterior segment pathologies.
